Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

How long is a tutoring session?

A single session typically lasts from 1 to 2 hours, but this is not set in stone and is ultimately a matter of the individual needs of the particular student. Tuition sessions are always tailored to the specific needs of the individual client.

How is a online tuition session conducted

Online over Zoom, with an interactive whiteboard.

Do I have to commit to a set number of tuition hours or sessions?

I am flexible, and you can have as many or as few tuition sessions/hours as you decide.

Cancelling and Rescheduling Sessions

Cancellations

Fully refundable, provided that at least 24 hours notice is given, prior to the booked session.

Rescheduling

I’m very flexible with timings and rescheduling lesson times can be done, at no additional charge, provided that at least 24 hours notice is given prior to the original booking.

Only want help with homework?

I regularly help students with their homework. Many students receive homework assignments that are more advanced than their current learning level.

I provide comprehensive Homework Support:

  • Detailed review of assignment content and structure
  • Strategic guidance on answer formulation
  • Keyword optimisation to maximise score
  • Clarification of complex concepts
  • Identifying potential exam-related topics

Beyond simply checking homework, I help :

  • Clarify whether the topics covered will be expected in an exam
  • Help refine answer wording and academic presentation
  • Provide targeted advice on how to communicate ideas effectively
  • Highlight key terminology that examiners look for
  • Ensure students understand underlying concepts
How many lessons would you recommend?

The number of lessons needed varies for each student and depends on several key factors:

  • Individual Learning Goals: Specific academic targets impact lesson requirements
  • Personal Learning Style: Some students progress faster with certain teaching approaches
  • Available Study Time: Proximity to exam date influences recommended lesson intensity
  • Academic Support Needed: Current performance level determines lesson depth

Generally, data shows promising results – 8 out of 10 students who complete at least 36 hours of tuition experience grade improvements. Typically, students see the most significant grade increases of 2-3 points with more comprehensive lesson packages.

We recommend scheduling a personalised assessment to determine the optimal lesson plan for your child’s unique learning needs.

How is one on one tutoring more effective than group tutoring?

I exclusively offer one-to-one sessions, optimising student outcomes through personalised attention.

“One to one tutoring, over 5 months’ progress can be made across a year with, on average, 6 months’ progress in primary school tutoring and 4 months’ progress in secondary schools. In contrast, the impact of group tutoring on pupil progress is 4 months at primary school and 2 months at secondary school.” – Education Endowment Foundation (EEF)
